Do you dare join our team and explore the haunted vaults of Edinburgh?

History:

Edinburgh vaults are deeply steeped into Edinburgh’s history. From the businesses that used to operate to the slums that tock over. The vaults started of as a bridge designed in the 18th century to make a pathway from one hill to the next. The vaults as we know them today are a result of overcrowding in the popular city of Edinburgh. And like most other city’s the only way around this problem is to build up and around the bridge and so Edinburgh vaults were created.

Back in the 18th century the vaults were mainly used as a place of business. Owners would set up their trade on the bridge and vaults below and sell there items to the public. The vaults would be crowded with people passing from store to store. It became a hive of activity. However there was a design flaw, and the vaults would flood when it rained and so business soon moved out and the slums moved in.

The slums were the poorest people in Edinburgh to inhabit the vaults. The vaults fell into the hands of petty criminals and destitute housing up to 10 people in the small rooms within the vault. The vaults were even said to house body snatchers, which craft and infamous serial killers Burke and Hare where the vaults are believed to be their hunting ground. There was no ventilation, light, sanitation, or heat in the vaults and with the slow steady seep of water through the cracks of the tunnels became uninhabitable.

Over the years the vaults were left to the homeless to inhabit forcing the council to act and seal the vaults of to the world. It was only after some luck that the vaults were rediscovered after a century of being lock away.

Paranormal History:

The vaults with its dark and twisted past are known for its haunted dwellings. With dark figures following you around, hushed voices and children crying to be heard. There are also reports of people being grabbed and pushed about especially towards the females of the group. Even staff get frightened by the spirits that seem to roam about the forgotten streets and have reported candles being blown out and a mysterious noise sounding from above. And if your feeling brave enough you should venture into the stone circle where it is reported by staff it leaves people feeling so unwell, they can faint from its effects.
